Verified with real camera RAW files

We tested PicEditLab on genuine RAW files from these cameras — each is losslessly re-encoded into a smaller DNG (a real, editable RAW). Other cameras are supported too and exported as a high-quality JPEG.

How Our DNG / RAW Compression Works

RAW compression is different from photo compression. The sensor data inside a DNG can't simply be recompressed in place. Instead our tool re-encodes it into a DNG — Adobe's open RAW standard — using modern lossless compression (LJPEG-92). This keeps 100% of the original sensor data and full editing latitude while making the file smaller; the result is a real RAW you can open in Lightroom, Camera Raw, Capture One, darktable and more. For camera models we can't convert losslessly, we decode the RAW and export a high-quality JPEG — far smaller, but no longer a RAW. We always keep whichever result is smaller and tell you which format you received.

Frequently Asked Questions About DNG Compression

How do I compress DNG images online?
Drag your DNG onto PicEditLab. We re-encode it to a smaller lossless DNG (an open, editable RAW format) using the same sensor data — no quality loss. If your camera model can't be converted losslessly, we export a high-quality JPEG so the file is still meaningfully smaller. We keep whichever result is smaller and tell you which format you received. Free, no registration.
Will compressing DNG reduce image quality?
PicEditLab uses a lossless compression algorithm that achieves significant size reduction while preserving visual quality. The difference is imperceptible to the human eye.
Are my files safe and private?
Yes. All files are transmitted via HTTPS encryption. We never view or analyze your image content. Files are permanently auto-deleted within 1 hour after processing, or you can delete them manually at any time.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Absolutely. You can upload up to 5 images in a single session, with a total size limit of 300MB. After compression, download them all in one ZIP file.
Do I need to create an account?
No account or registration is required. Just open PicEditLab in your browser and start compressing immediately. It's permanently free with no hidden fees.
Besides DNG, what other formats are supported?
PicEditLab supports JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, BMP, TIFF, SVG, AVIF, GIF, PSD and 13+ more mainstream image formats, covering all everyday image processing needs.
How much can compression reduce file size?
Actual compression depends on the source image content and format. Typically, DNG files can be reduced by 60%–85%. Results may vary, but our algorithm always finds the optimal balance between size and quality.

Why Are DNG Files So Large?

A DNG file is a camera RAW format that stores unprocessed sensor data for maximum editing latitude. Some cameras store that data uncompressed or only lightly compressed, which is why DNG files can be huge. The safe way to shrink one is to re-encode the same sensor data with modern lossless compression into a DNG — Adobe's open RAW standard — so you keep every bit of image data and full editing latitude in a smaller file. When a file can't be converted losslessly, exporting a high-quality JPEG is the practical way to get a much smaller image.

Why Should You Compress DNG Files?

As web content becomes richer, image file sizes have an increasingly significant impact on page performance. Oversized, unoptimized images slow down page loading, directly affecting search engine rankings (SEO) and user retention.

  • 📌 Faster Page Load Speed: Smaller images load faster, improving Core Web Vitals scores and SEO rankings.
  • 📌 Lower Storage & Bandwidth Costs: Reduced file sizes cut server storage and CDN traffic expenses.
  • 📌 Better Mobile Experience: Smaller files load more smoothly on mobile networks, reducing user wait time.
  • 📌 Easier Sharing & Transfer: Smaller files are easier to share on social platforms and messaging apps.

How to Compress DNG Online for Free?

Using PicEditLabs online DNG compressor is a 3-step process: (1) Upload your DNG file (drag & drop supported); (2) Wait for the system to complete lossless compression automatically; (3) Click download. No software to install, no account to create, completely free, works on any device.

DNG Compression Tips & Tricks

  • Use lossless mode: Achieve the best balance between visual quality and file size reduction.
  • Batch compress: Upload multiple images at once to save time and boost efficiency.
  • Preview before downloading: Compare original and compressed images to confirm the result meets your expectations.
  • Consider WebP format: If your platform supports it, converting to WebP can achieve even higher compression ratios.
